You Can Go / On Y Va

A bit about our advisory program.

Posted by Adela Colhon in You Can Go on August 4th, 2010

You Can Go is our service delivery component at CPSAP. Through You Can Go, our access workers help young people explore the range of post-secondary educational opportunities that are available, decide what programs and get information on funding options that might be a good fit, and ease their transitions into PSE programs if they are successful in gaining admission. In each city, programs are linked to local colleges, universities, technical schools, businesses, and community organizations—the programs are anchored in their communities, and tailored to their particular needs.

Here are some of our success stories so far…

  • In Winnipeg and Regina, You Can Go has worked closely with several First Nations organizations to conduct outreach targeted to aboriginal youth.
  • In Toronto, You Can Go has partnered with major post-secondary institutions and has had great success in adapting advisory materials for a wide variety of newcomers to Canada. Approximately 4,000 young people have participated in You Can Go programs throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
  • In the YMCAs of Quebec, You Can Go/On Y Va has delivered fully bilingual services, and has done major outreach by partnering with several school boards.
  • In Vancouver, You Can Go has focused on providing services to parents of middle school children (in grades 5-7), conducting workshops and one-on-one meetings to assist with long-term planning.

If you’ve participated in the You Can Go program, we invite you to share your story. Please send an email and tell us all about it.

If you are a Service Provider, or perhaps one of our CPSAP Members, we invite you to share your success stories. Together we can get more inspired and motivated about this important work.
